Project:

  Renovation

Location:

  Philadelphia, PA

Project Completed:

Completed in the Spring of 2006

HIGHLIGHTS:

DESCRIPTION:

When looking to expand our office, Re:Vision Architecture chose to renovate an existing building located in the Manayunk section of Philadelphia, PA. The local infrastructure provides easy access to public transit and commercial amenities that help to reduce the need for vehicular transportation. Applying design principles from other projects, Re:Vision Architecture has created a warm healthful atmosphere that reflects our core values of living more with less.

The move created an opportunity for creative experimentation as we took ownership of a dimly lit cavernous space, previously occupied by a graphic design firm. Our first experiment was to remove interior walls and allow daylight to permeate the space, but maintain privacy for our staff of 14. Lighting upgrades, efficient HVAC systems, skylights, a radiant floor heating system and a photovoltaic array followed, all contributing to our decrease in energy use. Four years after our move, we can proudly say that our energy use is half of the buildings previous occupants and with our solar photovoltaic system online, we plan to shed another 30% from our energy bill.
