  • Strategically located windows flood the homes with daylight and encourage ventilation currents
  • Super-insulated building envelope using structural insulated panels
  • 5kW photovoltaic array generates more energy than the buildings use
  • Geoexhange heating and cooling
  • Custom casework and floorboards milled from trees on-site
  • Stained concrete floor provides radiant heating from below
  • Used sophisticated energy and daylight modeling to optimize performance
  • Designed collaboratively with the owner and developer

The owner’s goal was to create two prototypical zero-energy homes that could provide an elegant and cost-effective alternative to traditional housing developments. The resulting homes were LEED-certified by the US Green Building Council at the Gold level for their exceptional environmental performance. Programmatically, the homes are designed to comfortably accommodate larger social gatherings while retaining intimacy for individuals. The owner’s particularly love the building’s comfort, warmth, daylight, and special, custom details.
